March for the Alternative

On March 26, 2011 the March of the Alternative took place to protest the enormous cuts the government has imposed on various public sectors, including the arts and the NHS. It is estimated that over 250,000 people took part in the peaceful march. As is often the case, however, a small number of people broke away from the main route of the protest and caused chaos in other parts of London. To view more photos of the event, have a look at the full selection here.

My first Evening Standard

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a photo of mine published in the Evening Standard for an article reviewing Gingerline, a pop-up restaurant and arts space. Unfortunately, that’s the one time I was unable to pick up a print copy!

Third Culture Kids

A Third Culture Kid, TCK for short, is ”someone who, as a child, has spent a significant period of time in one or more culture(s) other than his or her own, thus integrating elements of those cultures and their own birth culture, into a third culture” (source). In other words, a TCK is someone who, like me, moved around a few times while growing up and doesn’t quite know where to call home.

Many studies have been conducted to understand the effect this kind of upbringing has on TCKs as they get older. I have certainly not been immune to these TCK side-effects and have started a project to document TCKs in their 30s.

If you are a Third Culture Kid, or know any in London, do get in touch.
